The Guagua National Colleges grabbed the 2nd place in the Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators (PSITE Region 3) Student Assembly on I.T. Education (SAITE) Quiz Bee Competition against 17 schools in the region at SM City Event Center, SM City Baliuag, Bulacan on Sept. 4, 2009. The selected fourth year Computer Science (BSCS) students of the College conquered the second slot in the Senior Division.
Mark Wilson Nicdao, Nestor Samson Jr. and Arman Valencia were the school’s representatives in the annual IT competition. They were trained and coached by Mr. Michael Maglanque and Mr. Joel D. Canlas of the BSBA Department.
AMA Cabanatuan reigned supreme and was declared winner with a total of 24 points. GNC got tied up with Dr. Yanga’s College with 21 points.
The first part of the event was a Seminar on Information Technology led by the PSITE. The second part was the competition which was also divided into three categories; Easy Round, Average Round and Difficult Round. GNC Team got two points in the easy round, nine points in the average round and 10 points in the difficult round.
One week prior to the contest, the team had their group study on the latest trends on Information Technology. They used Internet-based references for their review. “Our only goal then was to beat AUF and Holy Angel University, and so we did”, Nicdao said.
In 2006, GNC also ranked 2nd in the 2006 Regional SAITE Quiz Bee Competition at Bataan.
